Join Us for a Night of Stargazing Fun!

Join Challenger Maine on November 4th (weather date November 6th) from 5-7pm on the lawn at the Cole Land Transportation Museum (405 Perry Rd, Bangor) for a free evening of stargazing education and fun!

Curious about backyard astronomy? Join us for a free event where you will learn the basics of successful stargazing, even if you do not own a telescope! Participants are invited to engage in a variety of night sky activities, hear from experts about what they are seeing in the sky, and even take a peek through a telescope with special guests from the Versant Power Astronomy Center!

This event is weather dependent. The goal will be to have the event on Monday November 4th. If the weather is too cloudy, it will be moved to Wednesday, November 6th A decision will be announced through email for folks that pre-register and this webpage at 1:00 PM the day of the event if there is a weather reschedule.

Event timeline:

Event runs from 5:00-7:00pm and is made up of many individual stations to move through at your own pace.

Who: Families, individuals, EVERYONE is welcome to join. This is for people and families that wish to begin a fascinating hobby or just enjoy the Maine night sky.

Pre-registration: While this event is free, we ask that participants pre-register using the link below. It will help CLC reach out if there is a delay due to weather.


Event Recommendations

  • This event takes place at the Cole Land Transportation Museum, on their lawn to the left of the main building. They are located at 405 Perry Rd. Bangor. Upon arrival there will be a check in table near the edge of the lawn to help direct you, this will be marked with several red light lanterns!

  • Feel free to bring camping/folding chairs or even a blanket to sit on, yet there will also be “stations” you can move through

  • Dress warmly! It has been getting cold early and much of stargazing involves standing still

  • Bring a flashlight for walking back to your vehicle. There will be minimal lights on to assist with stargazing. Stop by the check in table for red cellophane to turn your flashlight into a night vision safe red light!

  • Optional: bring binoculars

  • Event runs in stations from 5:00-7:00 PM, please join us anytime in this window. Minimize using your phone while here to allow your eyes to adjust
